Plassey Holiday Park is delighted to of received the Trip Advisor Certificate of Excellence Award 2015. Thank you to all our customers who have taken time to write reviews on our park. Many thanks from all the Plassey Team xx
There was a really good turnout for this popular stableford competition. Welcomed refreshments in the form of beer, wine, soft drinks, crisps etc. were provided by the sponsors at the Half Way House, the 10th tee. The sun shone on the righteous – it was glorious!
The winner of the trophy was Dave Wickens 40 points beating Runner Up Ross Meadows who had 39 points. Sharon Harold won the ladies section and Luke Johnson the Junior section. In 2012 Heather Savill received a sleeve of golf balls for taking part in her first club competition. This year husband Chris Savill won the Runner up prize in the Guest’s section. Chris was a non-playing competitor – work that one out! Your Editor Dave Brayshaw was awarded the Nearest the Pin trophy for being nearest the pin on the 17th . Now for the truth. No one reached the 17th green so a card draw was made and Dave’s card was drawn out so he was awarded the trophy. As Dave says “it’s the winning that counts – no point in coming second!”
Huge thanks from everyone go to Reg and Lisa. The ice cold lager on the 10th was particularly welcome in the heat.
The Plassey Ryder Cup is an annual Club match play competition between Wales and the Rest of the World. Some say the Rest of the World team should be re-named England but I leave that debate to others. Wales were captained by Baz Edwards and the Rest of the World was captained by Club Captain Dave Lafferty. The format followed the actual Ryder Cup with 24 points on offer spread over 8 fourballs, 4 foursomes and 12 singles matches. The final score was Rest of the World 15 points; Wales 9 points; with the Rest of the World taking the coveted Plassey Ryder Cup. Ben Mitchell has prepared a sheet showing all the results and this will be up on the results board this weekend – thanks Ben for a great effort in producing this.
Wales Captain Baz Edwards congratulated the Rest of the World on their victory and thanked all his team for playing. He said “it has been a brilliant golfing weekend with lots of good natured banter and there was one certain winner, and that was the Plassey Golf Club”. Well said Baz! Baz nominated Marc Davies as the 2015 Wales Captain. Rest of the World Team Captain Dave Lafferty thanked Baz and also his own team. He made particular mention of the contribution made by the younger players in the Rest of the World team especially Joel Harold who played in 4 matches, and won them all. Joel played a total of 72 holes of golf. Dave nominated Ben Mitchell as the 2015 Rest of the World Captain.
Once a team gets to 12 and a half points it is assured of victory. Barrie Makin beat Ian Lockhart on the 18th green with an 18 inch putt to secure a point. This took the Rest of the World to 12 and a half points, assuring victory irrespective of any other result. Super performance Barrie!
This was the first competition held in May. The Seniors played their competition on the Friday and the rest of the club on Saturday. Both competitions were played over 9 holes. Each player could only take 3 clubs, and one of them had to be a putter. Jason Bale was the winner of the main competition with 21 points. Jason said afterwards “I played so well with only 3 clubs I may as well throw the rest away!”.
1st – Jason Bale 21pts
2nd – Barry Torrence 19pts
3rd – Tony Meadows 19pts
1st – Alan Holland 16pts
2nd – Chris Humphreys 13pts
3rd – Cliff Green 12pts
