PLASSEY GOLF INVITATION DAY – This was a competition where members could invite one guest to play free of any green fee. The competition was divided into 2 sections namely, members / guests and members / members. The winners of the main member / guest competition were Andy Brown with guest Tony White with 45 pts . The winners of the member/ member competition were Ted Davies and Barry Torrence with 43 pts. Vouchers were handed by Competition Secretary Wayne Harold to all the winners. Well done, all.
Each year the Daily Mail holds a national UK Foursomes match play competition for all clubs in the UK. The Plassey GC decided to hold a qualifier to determine who should represent the Plassey in this national competition in 2015. Andy Brown agreed to sponsor this – thanks Andy. Foursomes is where golfers compete in teams of two, using one ball and taking alternate shots until the hole is completed. Team members also take turns in teeing off on each hole, i.e. one player will take the tee shot on odd-numbered holes, and the other on even-numbered holes. The handicap used is half of the combined total of the two players. Foursomes is both fun and stressful. Imagine you hit your drive 250 yards off the tee, down the centre of the fairway, and 100 yards from the flag. Your partner is next, but slices the ball 75 yards to the right, and behind a tree. That’s the bad news, and the even worse news is, it’s your shot next, and the ball is behind a tree. Problem is, the reverse can happen on the next hole. Don’t we just love this game ? The winners were Wayne Harold and son Sean with an incredible score of 68–5.5=62.5. The runners-up were Peter Johnson and Mark “Yogie” Graham with as score of 81-15=66. This was a great effort as Mark has a 25 handicap but had to play off the maximum allowed handicap of 18 for this qualifier. Wayne and Sean will represent the Plassey in the Daily Mail competition in 2015. Well done all.
