Hastings Cup was sponsored by the Wayne and Sharon Harold. It started off a bit cold and damp but soon warmed up for the ever popular Hastings Cup. The cup is named after the battle where King Harold II got one in the eye at the Battle of – yes, you’ve guessed it – Hastings. Chef Richard Bloss was on hand to provide the hungry golfers with hotdogs at the 10th fairway . Richard says he is mustard at this job. Mike Hamer won the Hastings Cup beating runner up Joel Harold by one shot. Jean Thompson won the ladies section with William Edwards taking the junior section. The winner of the Seniors 9 hole competition was Colin Brooks beating President Richard Bloss by one shot. Walter, the alcoholic wasp, joined in the celebration drinks, by diving into Simon Harris’s beer. Simon very carefully extracted Walter from his plight. Big thanks go to Wayne and Sharon for a super day.
This event was instigated by our President Richard Bloss who also acts as Social Secretary. Richard masterminded the plan for the day. Unfortunately he had to go into hospital a day or so before the weekend but just beforehand was able to provide the cookers, hot dogs, onions, serviettes, mustards, gazebo and many other things, including cooking instructions. Ian Lockhart, Wayne Harold, Cliff Green, Alan Holland, John Evans and Dave Onslow all provided back -up support on the day and we are truly grateful for this.
11 four – balls took part in a team event with a shotgun start. On returning to the clubhouse, players were treated to hotdogs with onions, expertly cooked by Sally Green and helper Michelle Wilson. A putting competition was also held organised by Joel Harold and Cameron Meadows. The winner was Neil Rogers.
Tina, Peter’s wife, thanked everyone for making this such a special day and mentioned just how much Peter loved the Plassey Club and its members. She then presented the Peter Vaughan Memorial trophy, donated by her and her family, to the winning team.
