2016 is the year of adventure in North Wales, and the area is packed full of things to do, from long walks to zip wires, shopping centres and award-winning gardens – there really is something for everyone. Plassey, one of the leading touring caravan sites in North Wales, is perfectly situated to allow you and your family to explore the area and get involved. So what are you waiting for? Book now!
There are so many things to do in North Wales, that it can be difficult to know where to start! Although it is only a two-hour drive from most of Cheshire, North Wales is very Welsh and has lots of historic sites, like castles and railways, as well as beautiful natural scenery such as, beaches and mountains which you can explore. Why not take a look at Trip Advisor’s Top Ten Things to Do in North Wales list for some inspiration? Or browse the ‘Local Attractions’ page on our website.
One of the most popular days out in Wrexham and Chester is a visit to Erddig. Erddig is a beautiful 18th century country house that is widely considered to be one of Britain’s finest historic homes. With a certificate of excellence from Trip Advisor to its name, it seems like most of you agree! There is loads for the family to do at this National Trust Property. You can explore the house, gardens and parklands and dogs are welcome. There is also a wonderful play area for kids and a great tea room where you can indulge yourself after a walk around the stunning grounds! Perfect!
Another great attraction in the local area is the Pontcysyllte Aqueduct. This World Heritage Site was built over 200 years ago and stands at an awe-inspiring 200ft high. You can stroll around it at your leisure, or have the full experience and cross it by boat. It is an amazing piece of engineering, although its perhaps not ideal for people who are afraid of heights! Don’t worry if all that gasping in wonder makes you hungry, there is a pub, restaurant and tea room on site as well.
The Plassey touring caravan site is also ideally placed for exploring Cheshire; there are lots of exciting things to do in Cheshire as well. For example, why not spoil the kids and take them to the recently remodelled Cheshire Ice Cream Farm? This is kid heaven and is packed full of things for all the family to enjoy, including a soft play area, JCB diggers, an indoor sand and water play centre, and even a games room for teenagers. The ice cream parlour itself has over 50 flavours of ice cream to choose from. All of these are sourced from cows that live on the farm and the ice cream is manufactured at a production unit next door. You can’t get fresher than that! There is also a shop and a cafe too.
In addition to all of these activities, there are plenty of things to do on-site as well. These include our Welsh castle themed children’s play area, our indoor heated swimming pool, our nine-hole golf course set in beautiful parkland, and our five fishing ponds. Or you can simply relax, enjoy the stunning naturally scenery and watch the world go by.

Do you love golf, or love the idea of golf, but have no time to play? Then why not come on a caravan holiday in North Wales? Plassey’s golf course is the only scenic and top quality nine-hole golf course in the area. Work, kids, family – the list of things that take up your time is endless, but you can bring the whole family to our friendly, nine-hole course which is a stone’s throw away from Chester, Wrexham and much of North Wales.
Golf is one of those wonderful sports that is just meant to be shared. So, what better way to spend an afternoon than playing golf with the ones you love? For those of us who have grown up with golf, we have some magical memories of warm summer afternoons spent with mum and dad trying to master a golf course together. Having access to one of the leading Golf courses near Chester and Wrexham, has taught us that golf is great for families to play together, as it offers something no other sport can – the chance for everyone to compete on the same level playing field.
The golf handicap system can sound quite complicated to some, but it’s really quite simple. If you have never played golf before, then you have no handicap; everyone starts at the same level. The first time you play, hopefully at one of the many beautiful golf courses in North Wales, you will need to keep two numbers – your score and your handicap. It’s probably best if you play with a golfer the first couple of times, so that they can help you to keep score. The rules also state that you have to complete at least ten rounds of golf before your handicap is calculated – before this you are just practicing! And don’t worry, when you first get a handicap it will be high, but it will drop quite quickly with regular practice.
So, what is a golf handicap? Well, your golf handicap is worked out by taking 96% of the average of the best 10 of your previous 20 scores. That is the complicated bit! So, let’s say your ten best scores from your last 20 games equal 100. This means that over these ten rounds of golf you hit 1,000 shots. If the par for the eighteen-hole course you played is 72 than your average score works out to be 28 over par. So, 28 is your handicap. This figure will be adjusted every time you play, and the lower this figure is, the better. You want to be as close to par as possible. If all this seems a bit complicated don’t worry, we don’t require golfers to have a golf handicap in order to play at Plassey, and we even offer discounted lessons with our PGA professional to help you to get started.
As we said before, the beauty of golf is that kids can compete with their parents and husbands can go up against wives and it really doesn’t matter about your level of skill. Golf is always a fair competition, and what better way to spend some quality time with the family?!
We couldn’t be prouder of our nine-hole golf course, and think it is an amazing facility for families on caravan holidays in North Wales. This is why we are doing our best to get more families involved in the game, by making it more affordable to play and by offering tuition to help players to improve.
