Plassey Golf Club held the ever popular 3 Clubs competition in April. In this competition, as the name suggests, players are only allowed to use 3 clubs, and one of them must be a putter. The winner of the competition was our proprietor Sarah Brookshaw, with a super score of 40 points. Sarah says “I played with three clubs, and had a really good game. I may as well keep the clubs I played with, and throw the rest away – I don’t need them !”.
Have you booked yourself a caravan holiday in North Wales this summer but aren’t sure what there is to keep the family entertained? Well, if you are staying at the Plassey there is no need to worry as there are lots of facilities for you to take advantage of – such as the heated indoor swimming pool, the Welsh Castle themed play park, the Games room, the fishing ponds and over 2 miles of nature trails through the surrounding farmland. However, we appreciate that you may want to venture outside the parks boundaries every now and again, and so we have pulled together a list of some of the brilliant activities that have been planned in North Wales this summer – and the best bit is they are all FREE!
One of the top tourist spots in North Wales, Anglesey’s County Council has pulled out all the stops this summer and organised not one, not two but five family fun days at different spots around the island. Characters from ‘Cei Bach’, a popular welsh children’s programme, will be appearing in Amlwch, Llannerch-y-medd, Menai Bridge, Brynsiencyn and Gwalchmai on certain dates throughout July and August.
There are also free swimming and fun days at Amlwch Leisure Centre throughout the summer holidays (with an Anglesey Leisure Card) – including water polo and mat sessions.
The local nature reserve at Rhos on Sea, Bryn Euryn, will be holding a free wildlife event around the theme of the ‘magical moths of Bryn’ on Saturday, July 30th from 10 am until 11 am. Your children can also discover the magic of rock pools with a free session exploring the honeycomb worm reef at Llanddulas on Thursday, August 7th. There is also a woodland walk scheduled to take place on Saturday, September 3rd Pwllycrochan Woods Local Nature Reserve at Colwyn Bay.
If these don’t take your fancy, how about taking part in the National Play Day at Eirias Park on Wednesday, August 3rd, from 12 pm to 4 pm. It is open for 5 to 12 years old, and parents are welcome to either stay with their child or have a few hours peace and collect them later.
Communities First and Dechcrau’n Deg are running a family fun morning on Friday, July 22nd, including arts and crafts, face painting and a bouncy castle – at the Community Youth Centre in Bangor. At the same time that this is taking place, there will also be a free sports session at the same place, which will be based on an Olympic theme. Sticking at the Youth Centre, there will be Groundworks staff running arts and crafts, den building and messy play session on Wednesday mornings for the whole of August.
Storiel, which is the Gwynedd Museum and Art Gallery, is also offering free arts and crafts sessions making pictures and toys from rubbish, and these sessions will take place every Tuesday afternoon during the school holidays.
Wrexham is the closest large town to Plassey and has lots of things to keep the children entertained over the summer. For example, the Eagles Meadow Shopping Centre and Wrexham Library have joined forces to offer children the opportunity to take part in ‘Roald Dahl Wednesdays’ which are themed around his book The BFG.
There will also be sports and games aimed at 8 to 14-year-olds on offer at the Ponciau Banks playground on Tuesday, July 26th at 1 pm. There is also a great opportunity for your children to learn Tennis with some free sessions offered by Acton Park Tennis Court on the same day. Or, you could top up their education by joining them on a free tour of Bersham Ironworks on August 4th at 2 pm.
These are just some of the amazing activities you could participate in if you are thinking about caravan holidays in North Wales this summer. Trying to plan a getaway for a group of friends this summer? We know what a hassle it can be trying to please so many people, remembering who has paid what, and checking that everyone has passports that are in date! So why not do something different this year and think about Plassey, one of the leading holiday parks in North Wales?
It is so easy to let the demands of everyday life get on top of us, with work, children and household chores taking up every moment of our waking hours. This can mean that we don’t get to spend as much time with our friends as we would like, and so booking a short break with the girls could be just the thing you need to slow down the pace and spend some quality time together. You may catch up for a coffee every now and again, but it can feel rushed, and often gets postponed, whereas a few days break away in each other’s company at one of the leading holiday parks in North Wales, can be just the thing you need to refresh and relax.
Here are just some of the reasons a short group break to North Wales should be on your to-do list this year:
If you and your friends have children, they will relish the fact they can have a ‘sleepover’ every night for a week – and they will have a constant playmate to keep them company. The fact that they can keep other occupied will give the parents (you) a better chance to relax.
Some people dislike the idea of going away as a group as they think it means they have to spend all day, every day together – but this isn’t the case at Plassey. There are so many activities to do on site and in the local area, that people can go off and do what they want easily and then come back together to discuss their day at the end of it.
There is an old saying that too many cooks spoil the broth, so why not take it in turns to cook and even share the washing up duties as well – on the nights when you don’t eat out of course! If you plan it well and there are four adults going, you could end up only having to cook once in a week!
There are many free attractions in North Wales to take advantage of, but there are also many others where you have to pay to enter. Having a group of people enter at the same time usually means you will earn a group discount off the entry fee – which will save you pennies in the long run.
When you go away on your own, it can be easy to not slip into a routine of doing the same thing every day. Going away as a group means that you are more likely to plan fun activities for every day so that everyone enjoys their break to the fullest.
Learn More About Each Other
Spending time together with close friends can be a great bonding experience and bring you closer together, meaning you come back from your break with a greater understanding of each other – especially if you now know they need at least two coffees in the morning before they can function!
We can’t stress enough how perfect North Wales is for a holiday, be it a weekend break or two weeks in the summer. There are so many activities to do and attractions to visit, that you will never run out of things to do.
