We are pleased as punch to announce that North Wales has been awarded one of the top spots in Lonely Planet’s top ten list of regions to visit in 2017. Lonely Planet are a travel guide company who specialise in curating the world’s hottest trends, experiences and destinations for the year ahead. They are the go-to company for travel guides and are seen as the world’s best authority on travel with employees that are self-confessed travel geeks! Between them, they rack up thousands of travel miles each year and come up with a list of places that are buzzing right now or are underrated destinations. They have many discussions, often going late into the night, and then whittle them down to a top ten list of countries, regions and cities that travellers must see.
As one of the leading caravan parks in North Wales, we are so excited to see North Wales as number four in Lonely Planet’s Top Ten list of regions to visit in 2017. Our beautiful surroundings sit in a list that also includes Choquequirao in Peru, Taranaki, New Zealand and Aysén, Chile – the Lonely Planet employees obviously have a thing about mountains! In fact, they say that: ‘Each destination is chosen for its topicality, unique experiences and ‘wow’ factor. We don’t just report on the trends; we set them – helping you get there before the crowds do.’
Lonely Planet themselves say that North Wales has earned its place as a must-see destination for 2017 thanks to the region’s reinvention. “Once upon a time the mountains and valleys of North Wales gave up a bounty of slate, copper and even gold; now this landscape, ringed with hills and rich with mythology, is a playground for hikers, mountain bikers and rock climbers.” And as you know, one of the many benefits of staying at Plassey is our closeness to a lot of the places where you can experience things like this and enjoy some amazing days out in Wales.
The places that influenced Lonely Planet’s decision to choose North Wales as a must visit the region for next year, include the LLeechwedd Slate Caverns, Zip World, Snowdon, the Snowdonia National Park, the vast array of Mountain Biking Routes, and Surf Snowdonia. It is great to see that they picked up that a stay in Wales is an exciting thing to do as there are so many activities to take part in! As we have witnessed ourselves, there has been a massive investment in our local area in recent years with many people taking advantage of the beautiful natural scenery and building businesses around that. Although this sounds like a tick-list of activities for adrenaline junkies only, there is in fact something for everyone, as families and groups of friends can get involved too.
Tom Hall, Lonely Planet’s Editorial Director, said, “we included North Wales in this year’s list of top ten regions, because it deserves to be recognised on the global stage. It’s a stunning area with a vast array of activities on offer to keep travellers entertained. North Wales has also become a haunt of in-the-know foodies, so however visitors get their kicks, once they’ve worked up an appetite, they’ll also be well catered for. North Wales is a gem and should be on every traveller’s radar.”
