One of our aims at Plassey is to offer you the best holiday in North Wales, and to do this we know that our food offering has to be top notch. Holidays are about relaxing and enjoying yourself, and we all know that if our tummies are happy, then we are happy! Traditionally in Wales, we live off the land and enjoy simple, wholesome fare which was originally designed to feed the appetites of those working the land – so no small portions here!
Being situated near to Wrexham means that we are within travelling distance of some of the best restaurants in North Wales, such as The Pant Yr Ochan in Gresford and Croes Howell in Rosset. The proliferation of restaurants in North Wales, mixed with our love of traditional Welsh food means that we have worked hard on the food in our own restaurant, club-house, and deli. Our restaurant, The Plassey Bar & Restaurant, focuses on freshly prepared a la carte food with a local flavour. The menu features plates such as, smoked haddock fish cakes, homemade steak and ale pie, and the chef’s special spiced orange cake.
We have recently refurbished our Golf Clubhouse, so the Haybank Clubhouse & Grill now offers guests the chance to sample some amazing local produce cooked on our fantastic Inka charcoal BBQ grill. We even have an authentic pizza oven too, where we hand make our own pizzas from scratch! Tucking into a perfectly grilled burger on our stunning patio is an experience you don’t want to miss out on.
Of course, Wales is famous for its lamb, cheese, and who could forget the leek? There are plenty of great local food producers and venues nearby if you fancy trying to recreate a great Welsh dish such as Cawl – a stew made with lamb and root vegetables. Just up the road from us in Conway, you will find a former winner of Britain’s Best Butcher at Edwards of Conway. This is a traditional butcher’s shop where you can buy Welsh lamb and Welsh beef, as well as loads of different flavoured sausages – definitely worth a visit.
For great vegetables, you can’t go far wrong with Hooton’s Homegrown – a family farm based on Anglesey whose produce is sold at their farm shops in Brynsiencyn and Caernarfon. All of their produce, including Anglesey garlic, is carefully handpicked, butchered and prepared on site, ensuring quality, freshness, and a better flavour. You can even try before you buy at their on-site cafe!
You don’t have to go that far to get great local produce though, as right at the end of our driveway is the fabulous Lewis’s Farm Shop. This family run farm has been producing fantastic beef and lamb for years, and now also sell locally produced pork, chicken and eggs as well. You’ll be delighted to hear that they won the Wrexham Sausage Championships three years on the run, and with 12 varieties to go at they are sure to have the perfect sausage you need to make your breakfast extra special! On top of this, they have a great selection of vegetables, award-winning pies and really delicious cakes too.
